Onana said: “To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.
“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years.
“I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”

Manager Erik ten Hag was on the hunt for a new No.1 after David de Gea left the club following the expiration of his contract June 30.
Onana was unearthed under Ten Hag at Ajax, with the help of legendary United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper is known for his ability with the ball at his feet.
Ten Hag’s philosophy starts with the goalkeeper and De Gea’s limitations in possession were exposed last season.

Speaking after Man City’s victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, City boss Pep Guardiola said: “Onana was playing like a holding midfielder. He was in the positions of a holding midfielder. We struggled.”
Before the match, Guardiola said: “The goalkeeper, Onana, makes it really difficult to deploy a high press against.
“You cannot press the goalkeeper properly. Inter are masters at keeping the ball.”
Onana also has a reputation for confidence and his antics made him popular at Ajax and Inter.

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan said: “Onana is, some fans call it crazy, but there is always logic behind it.
“It is rare to find a goalkeeper like him. No one has the confidence of Onana.
“If United succeed in bringing him in the fans will love him.”
