James Maddison is intent on ending Tottenham’s 15-year search for silverware.
He has also revelled at the idea of playing with Harry Kane at Spurs, and believes the England captain is the best in the world in his position.
Maddison completed his £40million move to north London at the beginning of the summer after five seasons at Leicester, where he helped them win the club’s first ever FA Cup in 2021.
Spurs on the other hand have not lifted silverware since 2008 when they beat Chelsea in the League Cup final.
Every season, fans wonder if they will finally end such a drought, and Maddison says it’s his mission to do just that.
When asked if winning trophies at the club is one of his ambitions, he told talkSPORT at the TNT Sports launch in London: “Definitely yeah.
“It’s well documented by you lot [the media] that Spurs haven’t won a trophy for a long time. But honestly, if I didn’t think that Tottenham were capable of winning a trophy, then I wouldn’t have gone there and I genuinely believe that.
“People will write whatever they want to write but we need to have that focus and that determination and that hunger to be the team that does bring Tottenham silverware. So, that’s the aim, that’s the ambition.”
With Maddison now a Spurs player, he has the opportunity to play with one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers ever.
Kane’s future beyond the summer remains uncertain amid interest from Bayern Munich, but Maddison is excited at the prospect of featuring alongside him should he stay.
“Harry is a brilliant player, arguably the best no.9 in world football in my opinion. Actually, I think he is the best no.9 in world football.
“Of course, we’ve obviously played together at England, he’s a brilliant, clever player, someone who can do it all so who wouldn’t look forward to playing with that?”
Maddison and Kane have already made three competitive appearances together on international duty with England.
Kane remaining at Spurs could prove to be a huge boost for Spurs as his ability in front of goal, partnered with Maddison’s creativity, could very well secure some long-awaited silverware.
