Rio Ferdinand has priced himself at £170million in the current transfer market – more than Kylian Mbappe.

Ferdinand had an extensive career in football, playing for 20 years in the Premier League, most notably with Manchester United.

He also played for West Ham, Leeds, QPR and a loan stint at Bournemouth, accumulating over 700 appearances.

Ferdinand’s honours list is incredible, winning seven Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Champions League in 2008.

In 2002, the defender joined United from Leeds for £30m to become the most expensive British footballer ever.

And he believes he would command a similarly sweltering fee in today’s market if he was playing now.

Speaking on Ferdinand’s YouTube channel VIBE with FIVE, Joel Beya said: “Look at the prices now, do you know what I mean, £30m today…”

Also alongside in the studio was Stephen Howson, who said: “21 years ago. I think you’re the second or third highest, they’ve adjusted for inflation.

“I think it’s Shearer’s the highest and then yours is like the second or third highest.

“I think you’re £100m plus now with inflation.”

Ferdinand replied: “I was £30m back in the day.

“£100m will be cheap mate. Serious, in today’s market… £170m… 400k-a-week. That’s what I’ll be now. I would be that now.”

Such a fee as high as £170m would be more than what Mbappe was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for in 2018.

The French superstar signed for the Ligue 1 giants for £166m, making him the second-highest transfer of all time.

Neymar currently holds the record after also joining PSG for a fee of £199m.

Currently, the most expensive centre-back is Harry Maguire after he joined United in 2019 for £80m.

However, he could leave for a fraction of that sum this summer after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
