Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has made some interesting comments following his side’s win against West Ham United earlier.

It has been a disappointing season for Chelsea overall, but things have really picked up recently.

They managed to beat West Ham 5-0 at Stamford Bridge today, taking them to seventh in the Premier League table.

If Pochettino‘s men can finish there, above rivals Manchester United, they will qualify for next season’s Europa Conference League.

It is not what Chelsea would have wanted at the start of the campaign, but given where they were at one point, the Blues will surely take it.

Mauricio Pochettino on Chelsea and Noni Madueke

It was not too long ago that Noni Madueke was fighting over a penalty with Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer.

A bit of greediness or just a desire to help out his team? It does not matter now because the winger put that behind him today after unselfishly teeing up Jackson for the first of his two goals against West Ham.

And according to Pochettino, that action showed that his Chelsea side are learning and are smart despite all of the criticism that they have received for the above and in general this season.

Speaking to football.london and other outlets after the Blues’ latest victory, the Argentine said: “I think the assist from Noni to Jackson, that showed that we learn, we are smart. The situation with the penalty against Everton, we received criticism but a young team needs to make mistakes to improve.

“Today was great, a great action from Noni to see how the group is starting to believe. It is always a process that takes time. It can take one month, six months or one year.”

Chelsea should be a much more mature team next season

This is a very young Chelsea side that have just been put together really. They are going to make mistakes.

Next term, now that they have more Premier League experience and just experience in general under their belt, the Blues should be a much more mature outfit.

And if Pochettino’s men are, it should make it a bit easier for them to reach their goals this time.
