Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that he has hope one of his young first team players can emerge as a leader for the team.

He told FotMob that he does not want to compare some of his stars to players of the past at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino has frequently mentioned that he is contending with a young and inexperienced squad this season, hinting it is having an impact on his ability to manage.

This is why he believes the Blues are currently out of the European places, with their chances of qualifying for any football of that capacity next season fading.

Some of his inexperienced players have looked to fight for the club, with a few supporting the brilliance of Cole Palmer in West London.

Nicolas Jackson is one of those who has definitely made a positive impression in his first season here, even if it has been through some tough times as well.

The 22-year-old has proven that he is an important member of the first team squad, with him starting in attack whether he is amongst the goals or not.

Pochettino has claimed there is hope he can also become a leader for the young side, however doesn’t want to compare his place at the club to Didier Drogba.

He said: “We talk about Nicolas Jackson. If we compare with [Didier] Drogba’s first season, there’s hope he can be a leader, but Drogba was a leader in his first season. People can find excuses and criticise, but I cannot pay attention.”

Jackson is likely to start tonight against Everton as the Blues look to get revenge on their 2-0 defeat in this fixture earlier this season.

That game was the last time club captain Reece James featured for the club, with the injury he suffered that day seeing him require surgery.

A goal for Jackson will see him reach double digits for the club in the Premier League this season.
