Mauricio Pochettino tried a new-look system for their last game in the Premier League against Brentford.
Whether it was based on the players he had available, or the opposition they were facing, the Argentine deployed a back five for the trip across West London.
Pochettino handed Trevoh Chalobah his first start in the Premier League of the season, with him flanked by Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi.
While the latter found the net late on, many feel as if it merely papered over the cracks of what is a seriously underperfoming side.
They drew 2-2, seeing them remain in the bottom half of the table at this stage of the season.
It remains to be seen whether this system is used for any future games, however if it is there is one player who did not feature at the weekend that it could be tailor-made for.
Marc Cucurella has not featured at all in 2024 after suffering an injury against Everton back in December.

However, he has returned to training in recent weeks, and this eventually saw him finally back in the matchday squad for the Premier League match at the weekend.
New system could be perfect for Cucurella
Despite hardly setting the world alight since his big-money move to Stamford Bridge, the 25-year-old has played some of his best football in a back five formation.
One of the most notable examples of this was in the return leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League last season against Borussia Dortmund.
He came away with the player of the match award, in a performance that gave a lot of supporters belief that there was a future for the club under Graham Potter.
This of course didn’t play out to plan, and Pochettino finds himself in a similar situation now where there is serious pressure on his job.
For one last roll of the dice in this new system, Cucurella could be an unexpected saviour.
