Ian Maatsen’s start to life in Germany has been faultless since Chelsea loaned him out to Borussia Dortmund last month.
Ian Maatsen, 21, struggled for minutes in the first half of the season at Stamford Bridge. Therefore, the Blues youngster joined the German giants on loan until the summer.
The attack-minded left-back has started five consecutive matches in the Bundesliga, providing two assists.
He’s been rewarded for his stellar start in Dortmund colours by being named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for January, which is an individual award voted for by fans, club captains and league experts.
Maatsen celebrated his individual prize with an Instagram post.
He’s received praise in the comment section from Chelsea first-team players Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu.
“My boy keeps going,” Chukwuemeka posted.
Ugochukwu said: ” My broski! Love that!”

Ian Maatsen excelling for Borussia Dortmund
With the way Maatsen’s started in Germany, many Chelsea fans will already be hoping he’s given a fair shot with them next season. However, we’ve got serious doubts that will be the case.
The Telegraph previously explained that Maatsen’s now got a £35m release clause in his deal, which the Blues will demand is paid in full by any potential buyers this summer.
Speaking via RUHR 24 recently, Maatsen said his future is “open” when asked about re-signing for Dortmund once his loan ends at the end of the season.
If you look at the current state of the market, Maatsen could represent a great piece of business at £35m for an exciting young full-back.
Our fear is Chelsea will look back at this scenario with real regret in years to come.
