Gary Lineker is tipping Barcelona star Alejandro Balde for a huge future in the game.

This comes amid recent speculation that Chelsea like the La Liga sensation.

Alejandro Balde, 20, is a young defender developed in the Barcelona academy.

The rapid left-back has been a first-team player at the Camp Nou in the last few seasons, emerging as a key starter for the Spanish giants. Unfortunately, The Athletic reports that he’ll miss the rest of this campaign with a hamstring injury.

Gary Lineker has made the big claim that Barcelona’s young full-back can develop into something “very special” one day.

When discussing Balde on The Rest Is Football, Lineker said: “I covered a couple of games last season for La Liga and I saw Barcelona play Espanyol. This young full-back, I thought my goodness, how good is he? He’s got a real chance of being very special.”

Chelsea interest in Alejandro Balde

We agree that Balde’s got a massive future ahead of him.

The Spain international has everything you want in a modern day left-back, so we’re excited to see his progress in the coming years.

Interestingly, Sport claimed back in December that Chelsea are showing the most interest in signing Balde. The youngster’s liked by English giants Manchester United and Manchester City, too.

We’ll be interested to see what the future looks like for the Blues in the left-back role.

Is Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella the right pairing to stick with moving forward as the senior options in that position? Our guess is most fans would ask for an upgrade signing, if possible.

Chelsea’s left-back situation has gone from a real position of strength to concern in such a short space of time. We feel Balde would be a real statement signing, but ditching vice-captain Chilwell feels unlikely.
