Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi were the goalscorers for Chelsea yesterday in their 2-2 draw with Brentford.
However, it was Malo Gusto‘s name Chelsea supporters were chanting at the Gtech Community Stadium, according to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who heard it being sung for the first time.
The right-back had a terrific game, setting up Jackson’s goal with a brilliant cross. Commentating on the match for Sky Sports, Arsenal legend Paul Merson described it as “unbelievable”.
While Chelsea were able to take the lead after Gusto and Jackson combined in the first half, they had to settle for a draw after Brentford’s second-half fightback.
Mads Roerslev equalised for the Bees in the 50th minute before Yoane Wissa put them in front with an acrobatic finish. A late Axel Disasi header, though, helped the Blues to salvage a point.
Chelsea fans chant Malo Gusto’s name
Gusto deserves the love he is being shown by Chelsea supporters right now. He has been excellent for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side in recent weeks.

For example, in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, Gusto put in quite a complete full-back performance.
He had some difficult moments against Luis Diaz, who is obviously a fantastic dribbler, but the Frenchman still managed to make six tackles on the day. Only team-mates Moises Caicedo (seven) and Enzo Fernandez (eight) managed to make more (WhoScored). Gusto also completed three dribbles, with only Diaz completing more (six).
Ideally, Pochettino would want his captain Reece James fit and available. But Chelsea are not exactly struggling down that right-hand side thanks to Gusto.
If the England international gets injured again in the future, Pochettino now knows that he will have a reliable deputy to his skipper in Gusto. It has not been a great season for the Blues, but the former Lyon man has certainly been one positive for them.
