It is now looking highly likely that Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca will become the new Chelsea manager.

It was reported on Monday that Enzo Maresca is Chelsea’s No.1 target to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino left Chelsea by mutual consent last week.

He got the Blues to sixth and back into Europe but, in the end, both the Argentine and the club decided it would be best if they went their separate ways.

Maresca is now set to replace Pochettino in the Stamford Bridge dugout. Chelsea were reportedly very impressed with the Italian in talks with his representatives.

What does Enzo Maresca think about Chelsea’s squad?

Sixth place was not the worst finish for Chelsea this season, especially considering the fact that they spent the majority of the campaign in mid-table.

However, the team’s aim was to qualify for the Champions League and they failed to do that.

Nevertheless, Maresca still seems to be happy with the squad he could be about to take over.

Discussing the 44-year-old on his YouTube channel, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said: “My understanding is that Enzo Maresca is super keen on the job, super excited by the project, convinced that the skills of the squad are absolutely in the idea of football he wants to bring to Chelsea.

“So everything is advancing really fast between Maresca and Chelsea in terms of contract, also in terms of project. Now Chelsea have to agree on compensation fee with Leicester.

“There is a release clause around €10m (£8.5m) for Enzo Maresca and Leicester, so now it’s time for Chelsea and Leicester to discuss and negotiate for Enzo Maresca, but he’s the man they want.”

Chelsea’s talented squad

Chelsea’s squad is a really talented one and is good enough to qualify for the Champions League next season.

In attack, they obviously have the likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, who scored plenty of goals for the Blues this term.

Combined, Palmer and Jackson scored 42 goals in all competitions for Chelsea.

Their midfield options are not bad either. They have Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, for example, the two most expensive signings in Chelsea’s history.

Maresca is going to have a lot to work with once he arrives in west London, which looks like an inevitability now.
