Cole Palmer has been Chelsea’s best player this season and by a distance.

He came into Chelsea‘s game against Aston Villa with an incredible 36 goal contributions in 39 appearances.

However, Cole Palmer could not really influence the match in the first half as Villa put themselves 2-0 up before half-time.

It has not been a great week for Mauricio Pochettino, who oversaw a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Tuesday.

Dropping more points, the Argentine will continue sweating about his job, which he could lose at the end of the season after a hugely disappointing campaign.

Cole Palmer problem

Palmer has been able to score goals and create them all season for Chelsea.

However, Villa, especially in the first half, were able to limit his influence with some very organised defending.

While on commentary duty for TNT Sports (27/04/2024 at 20:30), Lucy Ward said: “There’s hardly any space. Cole Palmer quickly moves the ball and finds himself an inch of space.

“They certainly need him because at the moment all the play’s in front of Villa and it’s predictable.”

Why Cole Palmer will fare better against Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea’s next match is a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, and it is a game that Palmer should find a bit easier.

Pochettino’s men are at Stamford Bridge and their opponents are quite an attacking side.

The England international should get much more space than what he found at Villa Park tonight.

Whatever happens from that Spurs game to the end of the season, Palmer has obviously had a great campaign.

More like it, and perhaps the former Manchester City man will end up in the club’s list of top scorers one day.

However, there is still a way to go before Palmer can start thinking about that. He will just be happy that he is getting game time at Chelsea and performing at the club.
