It could be a good idea for Chelsea to watch how one striker gets on after he returns from his injury.

AS Roma star Tammy Abraham is close to making his long-awaited return from injury, according to the Daily Mail, and that should be of interest to Chelsea.

The Blues are expected to be in the market for a new centre-forward this summer and the 26-year-old is more than an attainable option for them thanks to a buy-back clause.

As per The Athletic, Chelsea, who sold Abraham to Roma in 2021, can re-sign their former player for £69m.

And Abraham has already refused to rule out a return to Stamford Bridge in an interview with FourFourTwo last year.

Tammy Abraham closing in on return from injury

Abraham is a talented striker and can remind Chelsea and other clubs of that once he is fully fit.

In his first season at Roma, the England international scored 27 goals in all competitions. And at Chelsea, during the 2019/20 campaign, he managed to net 18 times.

This is someone who knows how to find the back of the net and has already proven that he can do that in England.

Abraham went off the boil a bit in his second season at Roma, scoring just nine times, and then went on to pick up that serious injury. Understandably, then, he is probably not at the top of Chelsea’s list.

Someone like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is occupying that place you would assume. If they cannot get him or Brentford’s Ivan Toney, for example, we do not think that Abraham would be a terrible alternative. It just depends on how he recovers from his injury.

As long as that buy-back clause exists, it is a possibility that is always going to be raised when Chelsea are in the market for a new striker like now.
