Enzo Maresca could have a new striker to work with at Chelsea should he take over there as expected.

Chelsea look close to appointing Enzo Maresca as their new manager after making him their No.1 target.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, everything is sorted now, so the 44-year-old should be the man who succeeds Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson was Chelsea’s main striker this season, and it looks like another centre-forward could be joining him in west London this summer.

The Senegal international scored 17 goals in 44 appearances for the Blues.

Chelsea interested in Atletico Madrid centre-forward

Chelsea signed Jackson from Villarreal last summer and could return to Spain to strengthen their forward line.

A report from CaughtOffside claims that the Blues are set to explore a potential transfer deal for Samu Omorodion.

It also states that Omorodion could cost €60m (£51m) if he leaves Atletico Madrid when the market opens.

The 20-year-old spent this season out on loan at Alaves. There, he scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances.

Should Chelsea sign Samu Omorodion this summer?

Already scoring goals in Spanish football’s top division at 20, Omorodion clearly has a lot of potential.

However, the Spain U21 international is not what Chelsea need right now.

The Blues already have quite a raw striker in Jackson, who is only a couple of years older than Omorodion.

Rather, what Maresca is going to need is a more experienced and proven centre-forward, someone who is going to score 20+ goals in the Premier League.

Acquire that, and Chelsea should have a good chance of finishing in the top four next season. However, bringing in an elite No.9 is unlikely to be easy or cheap. If it were, then the club probably would have had one by now.

All in all, then, now may not be a good time for Chelsea to bring Omorodion to Stamford Bridge.
