A surprise striker target has emerged for Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Flamengo forward Pedro is one player who Chelsea could sign before the start of next season, according to O Dia.

The Brazilian outlet has claimed that Roberto Firmino and Karim Benzema are also on a list of possible signings for the Blues.

Benzema was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the last transfer window. Journalist Simon Phillips claimed that the club made contact with one of the Al-Ittihad striker’s representatives.

In the end, though, nothing came from it, with Benzema remaining in Saudi Arabia.

Chelsea could sign Pedro

O Dia’s report claims that Pedro has a €60m (£51m) release clause in his contract but Flamengo would be happy to start negotiations at €25m (£21m).

At either price, a club of Chelsea’s riches could obviously afford Pedro, who has a good goal record in Brazil. In 221 appearances for Flamengo, he has scored 107 goals (Transfermarkt).

However, while it seems like the Blues signing Pedro is a possibility, we would be very surprised if he ended up being the centre-forward brought to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian does not have too much experience playing outside of his homeland, making just a few appearances for Italian outfit Fiorentina.

Chelsea already have Nicolas Jackson. There is little point in signing another unproven No.9 like Pedro.

At 26, Pedro is obviously not a novice, but again, he has not really played at a high level. After a disastrous Premier League campaign, which has seen Chelsea spend a lot of their time in 10th place, Mauricio Pochettino cannot afford a big gamble like the Brazil international.

Someone like Napoli and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, for example, seems more likely than Pedro in the summer transfer window if you are Chelsea.
