Chelsea will still be hoping for a number of first team stars to depart before the end of this transfer window.

They have already parted ways with the likes of Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson, making large amounts of profit in the process.

Enzo Maresca wants clarity on who will be available to him though, and therefore a number of big situations still need to be sorted out.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga seem to have burned their bridges at Stamford Bridge, and have no real future for them.

One figure who has very much not done that though is Conor Gallagher, however reports about his future being away from West London refuse to go away.

Chelsea don’t think Atletico Madrid can afford Conor Gallagher

Diego Simeone is reportedly a huge admirer of Gallagher, and is leading interest from Atletico Madrid in signing him.

However, according to The Telegraph, the Blues are of the belief that the Champions League side are not able to put together a financial package that could see a deal be reached.

Reports today stated that there is a thought of replacing Gallagher with Andreas Pereira, after interest arose in the Fulham man.

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino was a huge admirer of the midfielder, describing him as ‘priceless’.

Competition for places in midfield at Chelsea

Whether he joins or not, it is clear there is going to be some serious competition for places in the middle of the park at Stamford Bridge.

As well as the usuals from last season, Romeo Lavia will be hoping to notch up many more than the one appearance he made last season due to injuries.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was a target ever since Enzo Maresca was hired, and he will no doubt feel confident about his prospects of playing plenty of football next season.

There will be youngsters looking to use pre-season to show their worth too. Andrey Santos is one of those who thinks he is good enough to make an impact on the first team already.
