Mauricio Pochettino could quit as Chelsea manager now that the season is over.

He is about to enter the final year of his contract at Chelsea and there has been a lot of talk about the club potentially sacking him.

However, it looks like Mauricio Pochettino could actually be the one who decides to part ways with the Blues.

If the Argentine does depart Stamford Bridge, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna could be a candidate to come in and replace him.

It has been claimed that Chelsea have identified the 38-year-old as a potential successor to Pochettino as they weigh up sacking the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss.

Mauricio Pochettino’s ultimatum to Chelsea

Chelsea have not decided yet whether to sack Pochettino or not.

However, if they want their manager to remain at Stamford Bridge, it appears that they are going to have to meet a condition laid out by Pochettino.

According to talkSPORT, Pochettino will consider quitting his job if owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali do not give him more of a say in recruitment.

As of now, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are the men largely responsible for transfers, while Pochettino concentrates on matters on the pitch as head coach.

Mauricio Pochettino’s ultimatum hard to understand

Of course a manager would like to have more of a say over who is coming in and going out of the squad.

But Pochettino arrived at Chelsea as head coach and a clear recruitment structure in place with Stewart and Winstanley at the top. He surely cannot be surprised with the amount of input or perhaps the lack of he is getting.

If Pochettino wants to stay, then he is going to have to accept the way the club want to work. It may not necessarily be the right way to some, but it is clearly the path Chelsea want to go down.
