A Newcastle-born member of the House of Lords has made headlines in Germany after asking Sadio Mane if he’d sign for Newcastle.
The Bayern Munich star left Liverpool for the Bundesliga side last summer, signing for £27.4million, but is already being linked with an exit.

Instead of waiting to hear the latest from transfer gurus, House of Lords life peer and self-proclaimed Magpies fan Lord Martin Callahan took it upon himself to ask Mane whether he’d consider a move to the North East when they met in Senegal.
And it turns out the star hasn’t ruled joining Eddie Howe’s team out.
Relaying the story on Twitter, Callahan explained: “I’m in Senegal speaking at EITI Global conference, honoured to meet Sadio Mane in the hotel.
“[I] couldn’t resist asking him about coming to Newcastle United next season.

“His enigmatic reply was ‘never say never’.”
The German outfit are expected to sell the ex-Reds forward this summer after he lost his spot in the starting XI and his bust up with former Manchester City star and Bayern teammate Leroy Sane.
As a result, the Senegal international has been linked with a shock return to Anfield, with Manchester United, Saudi Arabia side Al-Ettifaq and Newcastle registering their interest too.
Last month Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg even claimed the Magpies could represent a ‘very hot option’ for Mane.

Mane’s wage demands of £350,000 per week will be way above Newcastle’s pay structure.
However the AFCON champion will need to a new club this summer, given his chances of a future at Bayern appear to be extremely slim.
Callahan will no doubt be hoping he’s helped to persuade Mane to come to St James’ Park.
