Ben Foster has been discussing Chelsea star Cole Palmer and his spot in the England team at Euro 2024.

Palmer, 22, is still yet to start a single game at this summer’s Euros tournament.

The Chelsea attacker was an unused substitute in England’s opening two groups stage matches. He then impressed off the bench against Slovenia in the final group fixture.

Palmer was an impact substitute again in England’s thrilling victory against Slovakia in the last-16 tie.

Next, the Three Lions take on Switzerland this Saturday in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

Ben Foster insists Cole Palmer has to start for England

Foster is absolutely desperate to see Palmer promoted into England’s starting XI versus Switzerland.

He’s convinced that the Blues playmaker, who can play as a right winger or a No 10, should be starting for England right now.

When discussing Palmer, Foster said via his YouTube channel: “He has to start the next game now it’s as simple as that.

“Palmer has to start now. Everybody could see when he came on [against Slovakia]. It’s hard when you haven’t played much football and haven’t been starting.

“I’m very sure that he’s very aware everybody wants him to start. I’m sure of it. He knows the nation wants him to start, so he’ll feel that pressure…

“He came on and the second he got the ball you could tell what his intention was. He was taking players on. He was getting balls into the box. He was playing balls across the 18 yard-line. It was completely different to what we had for the first 70 minutes.”

Chelsea talisman is right there

It’s baffling that international boss Gareth Southgate is so reluctant to throw Palmer into England’s starting line-up.

The squad has done well to remain in the competition and grind out results, but if it feels like a matter of time before they’re caught out unless performances improve.

Chelsea’s Palmer is injecting a bit of extra quality for England off the bench. It will be so much easier for him if he starting, though.

The Chelsea Chronicle agrees that the 22-year-old definitely deserves a start against a strong Switzerland team.
