Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer managed to get his name on the scoresheet once again in his side’s 2-2 draw with Burnley today.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the first half when Mykhailo Mudryk was brought down in the box by Lorenz Assignon, who was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for the foul.

As he has done all season, Cole Palmer converted from the spot to give Chelsea the lead and net his 12th Premier League goal of the campaign.

Despite going down to 10 men, Burnley were still able to cancel out Palmer’s penalty, with Josh Cullen’s well-taken shot beating Djordje Petrovic.

Nevertheless, Palmer’s first goal out of his two this afternoon saw him join an exclusive list of four former Chelsea players, including Eden Hazard. Despite how impressive the 21-year-old has been this term, Graeme Souness does not actually think that he has been the Blues’ best player.

On top of scoring 13 goals in the Premier League, Palmer has also recorded eight assists in the English top flight.

Why is that so significant? Well it obviously means that the Englishman has now reached 20 goal involvements for Mauricio Pochettino‘s team this season, which is really impressive.

But what makes it even more impressive is that, according to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, only four other footballers who have played for Chelsea have managed to replicate that feat in their debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, including Hazard.

Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, who joined Chelsea the same year, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink are the other three names on the list.

Across all competitions, Palmer has 28 goal contributions for Chelsea.

Could Chelsea lose Cole Palmer?

Palmer has a contract until 2030, so Chelsea should not be under any pressure to sell him this summer.

The England international has just joined the club as well and is playing regularly so would probably not be keen on a move so soon either.

However, his numbers this season have been ridiculous. If Chelsea continue to struggle and Palmer has another campaign like this one, Europe’s elite are going to come knocking, perhaps even his former side Manchester City.

It would be hard to say no if his current team remain a bottom half of the table outfit and out of the Champions League.

Understandably, though, Palmer is not a player who Chelsea will want to lose, with it being claimed that the club want to make him their poster boy.
