Ian Maatsen has shown huge support for a youngster on Chelsea’s books by claiming he’s got a massive future ahead of him.

Chelsea have constantly managed to promote youth at Stamford Bridge over the years, with the likes of Reece James and Levi Colwill breaking into the main group in recent times. On top of that, you only need to look around at the current first-team squad to see the club’s investment into signing young stars for the future.

Our guess is most Blues fans will agree with us when we say the club simply needs to sign some more experience for next season. However, it’s exciting to see how so many of the youngsters develop.

Ian Maatsen hails Chelsea youngster

Ian Maatsen, 22, is a Chelsea-owned talent himself currently thriving out on loan with Borussia Dortmund. His side even play tonight in the second leg of a Champions League semi-final versus Paris Saint-Germain.

Maatsen’s claimed that Blues youngster Omari Hutchinson is a special player with a big future.

Hutchinson, who’s aged just 20, has just finished a superb season-long loan at Ipswich Town, where he scored 10 league goals to secure promotion from the Championship. But will he be given a chance at Chelsea when he returns to west London in the summer?

Maatsen has responded in the comment section of Hutchinson’s Instagram post this week to tip him for a big future.

He wrote: “Keep it up broski sky is the limit.”

Omari Hutchinson has finished super year

If you look at the players Chelsea loaned out this season, Hutchinson’s had the best story and success of them all.

The 20-year-old attacker, who can play as a No 10 or right-winger, played a key role in Ipswich ending their 22-year exile from the Premier League.

It’s important to flag that the skilful playmaker only got better as his loan deal went on, too. Hutchinson scored 11 times across all competitions for Ipswich, but eight of the goals have come since the turn of the year in 2024.
