AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek should have left Chelsea a lot sooner than he did.
That has been suggested by Owen Hargreaves.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who’s a product of the Blues academy, spent 19 years on Chelsea’s books before leaving last summer.
AC Milan paid Chelsea a £15 million transfer fee (The Guardian) to sign Loftus-Cheek, which is already looking like a great piece of business for the Italian club.
The 28-year-old midfielder is excelling during his debut season at the San Siro. He’s now up to seven goals in 28 Milan appearances after scoring twice yesterday in the Europa League.
Pundit Owen Hargreaves thinks Loftus-Cheek would have been much better exiting Chelsea sooner than he did.
He enjoyed some real high during 155 first-team appearances for the Blues, but his time was disrupted a lot by fitness, form and loan moves.
“It’s a good fit,” Hargreaves told TNT Sports.

“I can’t believe Ruben Loftus-Cheek is 28 already. I know he was always a star as a young man, but he probably should have made this move a little bit sooner.
“He’s such a talented guy. He’s got goals in him and it just shows that he’s in a really good place in a team that plays to his strengths.”
Ruben Loftus-Cheek shining at AC Milan
Chelsea fans have always known Loftus-Cheek’s ability. Personally, we were gutted when he waved goodbye to Stamford Bridge last summer.
Our feeling now is that the London-born midfielder has given himself the best shot of earning a recall to England’s senior squad.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast last month, Gary Lineker hailed Loftus-Cheek for the campaign he’s enjoying with Milan.
It’s great to see him back scoring goals again, which is an area of his game that not all managers have tapped into properly.
