It looks like it is now make or break for Mauricio Pochettino as he tries to hold on to his job at Chelsea.
A sacking does not appear to be imminent, but Mauricio Pochettino‘s position in the Stamford Bridge dugout does not seem entirely safe.
The Argentine is underperforming in the Premier League, with Chelsea ninth in the table, and he is not on a long-term contract in west London.
Pochettino has also just overseen a huge defeat after watching his side lose 5-0 against Arsenal, while other managers, such as Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi, are being linked to the club.

The two games Mauricio Pochettino may now have to win to save his job at Chelsea
Chelsea’s next game is away at Aston Villa then they take on London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at home.
With qualifying for Europe still seen as important, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, those matches against Villa and Tottenham could be season-defining for Pochettino.
He shared on X: “Understand Chelsea’s leadership are yet to make any final decision and want to do so ‘dispassionately’.
“Games against Aston Villa and Spurs are going to be season-defining as far as qualifying for Europe are concerned, and doing so is still seen as important.”
Can Mauricio Pochettino get wins against Aston Villa and Tottenham?
It is not impossible. After all, Pochettino has already beaten both teams this season, defeating Villa in an FA Cup fourth round replay and Tottenham in a Premier League tie.
They won those games quite comfortably, beating Villa 3-1 at Villa Park and Tottenham 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though it took them a while to break down Ange Postecoglou’s nine-man side.
However, after what happened against Arsenal and looking at the Villans’ form in the Premier League this season, Chelsea should not be favourites for their upcoming fixture. It is not a game you can see them winning after Tuesday night.
