Ally McCoist thinks he’s started to notice something about Chelsea during their recent run games.

The Blues have gone into March’s international break off the back of a crazy fixture schedule, which was filled with some very high-scoring games.

Following the Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool on 25 February, Mauricio Pochettino’s side played twice in the FA Cup and twice in the Premier League.

Chelsea are through to the FA Cup semi-finals after beating Leeds United 3-2 and then Leicester City 4-2. As for their Premier League form, they beat Newcastle United 3-2 and it was a 2-2 draw with local rivals Brentford.

It’s safe to say we’ve been entertaining for the neutrals of late, while supporters have been put through it.

TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has observed from Chelsea’s recent form that there’s signs of improvement. In fact, he does give them a chance of winning this year’s FA Cup, albeit they’ve got favourites Manchester City in the semis at Wembley Stadium.

“I think in recent weeks there has been signs at Chelsea of improvement,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

“Massive amount of work to do, I think Pochettino knows that and accepts that.

“I think Chelsea are more than capable of winning the cup, City will be favourites. You could argue they were slightly unlucky against Liverpool in the League Cup, although I thought Liverpool were slightly the better team.

“They’ve got a long way to go before they can challenge Liverpool, City, and perhaps Arsenal, in the league.”

Similarly, we’ve enjoyed some of what we’ve seen from Chelsea lately. It’s easy to watch talented youngsters such as Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto thrive in this side.

It’s surely still a long road back to the top for the club, though.

Chelsea must fix glaring weakness after the international break

We think it’s pretty obvious that Pochettino has got to fix up the defence when we return to action. Incidentally, Chelsea are back playing on 30 March at home to relegation candidates Burnley in the league.

It’s pretty alarming that the Blues have conceded two goals in each of their last four consecutive matches across all competitions, so some questions need to be asked of the new centre-back combination of Axel Disasi and Trevoh Chalobah.

The Chelsea Chronicle has argued why recalling veteran centre-half Thiago Silva after the break could be a sensible move. Regardless, Pochettino has got do something to intervene!

Our fear with this group is one really poor result and performance is always just around the corner.
