There is something that former Chelsea player Eddie Newton is not liking about his old side right now.

This current Chelsea team have not given supporters and those connected to the club much to smile about this season.

The Blues lost the Carabao Cup final at the end of February, were knocked out of the FA Cup semi-finals earlier this month and are ninth in the Premier League table.

It is quite clear to see how poorly Chelsea have performed this season.

Some individuals, however, have not done too badly.

Eddie Newton not happy with what Chelsea are doing with one of their players

One individual in this Chelsea squad who is obviously doing well this term is Cole Palmer.

He has scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions for the Blues.

The 21-year-old England international is a great player to have, but Newton thinks Chelsea are relying on him too much.

Discussing Palmer on talkSPORT, Newton said: “For me, they’re relying too heavily on Cole Palmer. The reliance on that young man is too much at the present moment in time. It just seems like the goals, he’s the one that stimulates the goals.

“Obviously, he’s the creator of goals or actually the goalscorer and he’s scored is it 20, 21 goals he’s scored this season? So yeah, they’re heavily relying on him.”

Chelsea relying too much on Cole Palmer

It is quite clear that Chelsea have become quite a bit of a one-man team.

Without Palmer, they would probably be in the relegation zone this season. Their other attackers have just not done enough.

Nicolas Jackson has done all right, scoring 10 times in the Premier League, while Noni Madueke has really come to life recently. But the duo, as well as Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk, have not been consistent enough.

Mudryk, one of Chelsea’s most expensive ever signings, has really struggled to make an impact at times this term. In total, the Ukrainian has netted just six goals in 37 appearances.
