Chelsea’s end-of-season meeting looked to be quite a tense one.

It ended with Mauricio Pochettino leaving the club by mutual consent, an outcome some may be disappointed with.

He really got Chelsea playing well towards the end of the season as the Blues picked up maximum points from their final five games.

It ensured that they finished sixth and will see them enter the Europa League next term should Manchester United go on to lose the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday.

Several names have been mentioned as potential candidates to replace Pochettino in the Stamford Bridge dugout, including Burnley’s Vincent Kompany.

What exactly went down in Chelsea’s end-of-season meeting?

With Chelsea and Pochettino both deciding that they should go their separate ways, it does not look like things got too ugly as the two parties reviewed the campaign.

However, there would have perhaps been some awkward moments during the meeting.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, co-owner Behdad Eghbali came with data to show Pochettino some of Chelsea’s weaknesses this season.

Jacobs posted on X: “The end-of-season review was very analytical. Understand the leadership team, especially Behdad Eghbali, came armed with data.

“Some ‘negative’ data was presented to Pochettino showcasing some of Chelsea’s season-long inconsistencies or weaknesses, including missed big chances and failure to make set pieces count.”

What Mauricio Pochettino cannot be blamed for

It is pretty unfair to try and make Pochettino accountable for the number of big chances Chelsea have missed this season.

When the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling are one-on-one with the goalkeeper and take a poor shot or make the wrong decision, there is not much the manager can do about that.

If anything, Pochettino probably deserves praise for what he has done with Chelsea’s attack this season.

In total, the team scored 77 goals in their 38 Premier League games. Last term, they only managed 38.
