Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are all for Birmingham investor Tom Brady joining the club and spending money in the English Football League.

The NFL legend was unveiled as Championship side Birmingham City’s new minority shareholder in a shock announcement on Thursday.

Brady is now also chairman of the new advisory board, working directly with the club’s board and members of Birmingham’s leadership team.

After McElhenney and Reynolds’ got Wrexham promoted back to the EFL after a 15-year absence at the second attempt, it’s no surprise other A-listers now want to see if they can replicate the duo’s success.

The Welsh outfit face MK Dons, who were relegated from League One last term, on the opening day.

But before action got underway in north Wales, the club’s co-owners were quizzed on their reaction to the news of Brady investing in the EFL too.

“I know Tom and he has the spirit of a lion and a competitor,” Reynolds told Sky Sports.

“Come on in, the water’s warm.”

When asked if they had any advice for Brady, though, McElhenney joked that he was in no position to tell a sporting legend – who holds the record for the most Super Bowl victories and most MVPs – how to be successful.

Before their return to the EFL on Saturday, Wrexham announced the signing of former Premier League midfielder James McClean from Wigan.

When asked about snapping up the Ireland international, Reynolds said: “We’re so excited. Not just because he’s an enormous and a huge addition to the team, but he’s a leader.

“When you speak to him you’re immediately filled with confidence. He understands what’s ahead of him and the job he has to do. He’s going to be amazing in the locker room.

“He has a ton of experience, he’s like a lot of players in the locker room. The head’s of the guys in the locker room, there’s a humility to them, they work really hard, they take this all deadly seriously and James is no different. I can’t wait to have him here.”
