Mauricio Pochettino has now claimed that he may be missing one of his key players for Chelsea’s game on Monday night against Newcastle United.

He said in his pre-match press conference that he may well be without Conor Gallagher for the upcoming Premier League match due to illness.

It is clear to see just how liked Gallagher is by the coaching staff at the club. He has frquenetly been named the captain on the day in the face of injuries to Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

2024 has seen a vast imporvement in his performances too, coinciding with a return to goalscoring at last.

However, it looks as if this strong run in front of goal is going to come to an end, with Pochettino hinting he may not be able to feature on Monday night.

He said“: He is not here in the last three days we were training. We will see tomorrow or Saturday if he can have the possibility to train. The problem is you lose weight and the energy is down.”

Gallagher may miss Newcastle

If he is not available, the manager may look to feature Cole Palmer in the number 10 role where his England teammate normally operates.

This will leave the duo of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo perhaps under a bit more scrutiny, however their improvement in performances recently has suggested that they could achieve this.

With Nicolas Jackson likely to start again following his good run in front of goal, there may be a chance for one of Raheem Sterling or Mykhailo Mudryk to return to the starting side after being benched against Brentford.
