‘What have we missed?’: Black Mirror fans go wild as Netflix show returns to Twitter after four year hiatus as creator Charlie Brooker gives biggest hint yet series six will be released soon
Netflix fans have gone wild as Black Mirror made a surprise return to Twitter on Tuesday.
The hit show has been silent on social media for four years but returned with a bang when they Tweeted: ‘What have we missed?’
Show creator Charlie Brooker, 52, responded to the post with a quizzical face emoji – and fans think this is the biggest hint yet series six could be released soon.
Netflix were one of the first to respond. They joked: ‘Season five of the show consisted of just three episodes though each of the episodes ran for over an hour.’
Fans were besides themselves with the surprise Tweet.

One wrote: ‘Stop playing with our emotions Black Mirror’, while another said: ‘When can we expect another season???’
Another added: ‘Okay, it’s happening!’
While a third fan joked about the huge four year gap since series five was released.
In reply to what they have missed they said: ‘Oh just a global pandemic, economic collapse, wildfires, murder hornets, and the general chaos of 2020. But don’t worry, it’s not like anything major happened.’
Season five of the show consisted of just three episodes though each of the episodes ran for over an hour.
Season five featured a star-studded cast including Wrecking Ball singer Miley Cyrus, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie, That 70s Show actor Topher Grace and Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Production hit a standstill back in 2020 after Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company House of Tomorrow.
House of Tomorrow’s parent company Endemol Shine Group still owned the rights to Black Mirror and sold them to Banijay Group in the summer of 2020.

Netflix was eventually able to work out a deal with a division of Banijay Group that licensed the show out to the streaming giant.
Black Mirror first aired on Channel 4 back in 2011. It moved to Netflix beginning with its third season that aired in 2016.
The show has won myriad awards including eight Primetime Emmys as well as a Peabody Award.
Last year Variety reported the show had started casting for series six.
Though not much is currently known about the hit dystopian anthology series, sources did reveal that the upcoming season will have more episodes than the last installment.
