Rasmus Hojlund has been given a review from his old manager that will surely excite Manchester United fans.

The 20-year-old has landed in England from Atalanta on Tuesday after the Red Devils agreed a £72million deal.

Seen as the side’s long-term centre forward option, Hojlund comes with huge hopes on his shoulders, even though he may not have the goal totals to back it up.

However, what the Dane has shown is boundless potential, and a mentality his former manager is a huge fan of.

Leaving his hometown side of Copenhagen in 2022, Hojlund had a brief stint with Austrian side Sturm Graz before being snapped up by Atalanta.

And in Graz he left a big impression on former manager Christian Ilzer.

Speaking ahead of the swap to United, Ilzer said: “Hojlund has always been a self-confident boy, he even seems cocky if you don’t know him.

“He has flair, speed and an above-average footballing intelligence.”

His last manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, had similar praise this year after a season that saw nine goals and two assists in 32 Serie A games.

The Italian said: “He has great skills but also great margins for improvement.

“He must work because he has important characteristics to become one of the strongest strikers in Europe.”

Gasperini also earlier said: “From the very first training sessions we are convinced that he has good characteristics for a boy who is only 19 years old,

“He has a bright future. He is very smart, I hope to help him grow and give him improvements that can help him.”
