New York City ‘s Mayor Eric Adams wore a $700 Fendi scarf underneath a bulletproof police vest during a press briefing about migrant crime in the city. Adams , who is no stranger to lavish tailor-made suits and designer labels on his $258,000 salary, wore the flashy designer item on Monday morning. The beige wool and silk scarf, fit with Fendi’s iconic monogram, retails for a cool $690 from the designer’s website.
Adams was criticized for wearing the Italian-made Fendi scarf under his flak vest. One person online wrote: ‘New York citizens are under financial duress & Mayor Eric Adams comes out rocking a $700 Fendi scarf under a bulletproof vest. Incredible. He’s like in your face suckas.’ Another said: ‘Just a bit of fun here. At a news conference self-congratulating himself about an arrest of Venezuela immigrant thieves, Mayor Eric Adams wears a $700 Fendi scarf under his bullet proof vest.’
And a third joked: ‘Eric Adams executing search warrants in his $700 Fendi scarf.’ Another person online added: ‘Is Adams wearing a Fendi scarf under his bulletproof vest? That’s a lot of imagery to unpack….’ Others tried to focus on what the mayor was there for – talking about the arrest of migrants – but got distracted by the bizarre scarf.
They said: ‘Not sure what their immigration status has to do with the case, but curious that other info besides that was left out—what was stolen? ‘And how did police discover the theft? Also, is Mayor Adams wearing… a Fendi scarf… while cops are making arrests on migrants…?’ Mayor Eric Adams had just been at a sting operation to arrest a group of migrants who were caught stealing phones across the city.
He later appeared at a press conference with police. Adams said: ‘This isn’t about the migrants and asylum seekers, this is about those who break the law. It doesn’t matter where you’re from and where you came from.’ He added: ‘Those who think they’re gonna come to our country, break our laws, assault our cops – that was not only an assault on an individual – that was an assault on our system of public safety.’
‘They’re gonna use an organized method to commit crimes? This can’t happen.’ NYPD Assistant Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said: ‘Most migrants come to NYC in search of a better life. Sadly, some come to commit crime. Today we made tremendous progress in the largest robbery pattern plaguing our city.’
‘Our message is simple – commit a crime in our city and we will find you and bring you to justice!’ Officer Nicholas Fiore said police are still looking for the leader of the crime ring, which has allegedly been looking for migrants to do ‘his dirty work.’
