Liverpool believe they are progressing with a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, talkSPORT understands.

The Seagulls star’s representatives have told Liverpool chiefs the Argentina World Cup winner is keen to play for Jurgen Klopp.

Discussions over personal terms are also already at an advanced stage.

Mac Allister has become Klopp’s main midfield target after the Reds missed out on Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham.

The 24-year-old only signed a new contract at Brighton in October, but the deal included a facility to allow him to leave.

Alongside winning the 2022 World Cup with his country, Mac Allister played a pivotal role in guiding Brighton to finish 6th in the Premier League and secure Europa League qualification.

As a result the talented Argentinian has understandably attracted interest from Brighton’s Premier League rivals.

The Seagulls man was spotted crying after the final whistle following his side’s final game of the season against Aston Villa in what could prove to be his last match for the club.

Mac Allister might not be the only star leaving the club either with Moises Caicedo linked with Arsenal and Chelsea and manager Roberto De Zerbi admitted the pair could be heading for the exit in his post-match interview.

“I think it can be the last game for Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo,” he said.

“It is right that they can leave, they can play at a higher level.”

Since arriving from Argentinos Juniors in 2019, Mac Allister has played 112 games for Brighton, scoring 20 times and assisting nine goals in that time.
