Trevoh Chalobah was all over the place defensively for one of the goals Chelsea conceded in Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth round tie.

That is according to Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills.

Despite Leeds scoring twice through youngster Mateo Joseph, Chelsea ran out 3-2 winners at Stamford Bridge in the midweek cup tie.

The Blues have now set up an FA Cup quarter-final match at home to Leicester City next month.

We let slip the chance to win silverware at the weekend in the League Cup final, but there’s still hope in the FA Cup.

Danny Mills criticised Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, 24, for his role in the Leeds goal that made it 2-2 on the hour mark.

The centre-back was caught out of position inside his own box, with visiting forward Joseph allowed the space to score.

“I just said Leeds were in the ascendency! It was a free header. There was nobody with 5-10 yards of him,” Mills told Sky Sports (8:50pm, 28 February).

“Chalobah has got no idea where he is. He’s looking at the ball and it’s a very simple header.”

Trevoh Chalobah mistake

Despite strong criticism in the media for one defensive moment in the second half, Chalobah did receive big praise from his manager after the game.

Speaking in his post-match interview via the club’s official website last night, Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino claimed Chalobah was “very good” and one of the best players on the pitch during the cup tie.

Let’s remember that Chalobah was making his first start of the entire campaign, missing most of it with an injury from pre-season. Overall, it was a pretty solid 90 minutes to get under his belt.

It’s certainly interesting to think what Mauricio Pochettino’s strongest back four would be when everyone’s fit and available. Unfortunately, we’ve not had that luxury this year at Stamford Bridge due to the pile up of injuries across the squad.
