Mauricio Pochettino’s exit does not look like it has impacted one Chelsea target.

Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday that Mauricio Pochettino had left the club after mutually agreeing to.

Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley will now be focusing on bringing in a new manager to replace the Argentine.

Once that is done, they are likely to turn their full attention to transfers.

The striker position is one area that could be strengthened, as Chelsea continue to be heavily linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen not put off by Mauricio Pochettino’s departure

Chelsea could do with a new centre-forward because Nicolas Jackson was the only natural option in their squad during the second half of the season.

The man that they could end up bringing in is Osimhen, with Pochettino’s exit unlikely to change anything.

According to TEAMtalk, the 25-year-old is focused on joining Chelsea despite the fact that they have no manager right now.

The same outlet claims that the Blues are currently leading the race for Osimhen ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and clubs from Saudi Arabia, but a deal will not come cheap because of his £111m release clause.

However, an article from gianlucadimarzio.com earlier this month reported that Chelsea could try and get the price down to €90m (£77m) by offering Romelu Lukaku in the deal.

Would Mauricio Pochettino have wanted Victor Osimhen at Chelsea?

Pochettino put a lot of faith in Jackson and, in the end, the 22-year-old did not do a bad job for his former boss.

In 35 Premier League appearances, Jackson scored 14 goals and provided five assists — not too bad for someone who only arrived in the division last summer.

It was not enough, though, to get Chelsea top four.

You suspect, then, that Pochettino would not have said no to the kind of firepower Osimhen brings. In total, he has scored 15 goals in 24 Serie A outings. It is a combo that is not going to happen now, or at least at Stamford Bridge.
