Chelsea may start to regret selling one of their players in the last summer transfer window.

Chelsea sold Kai Havertz to Arsenal, where the forward is now thriving, and Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that the Gunners view him as the “perfect signing”.

The transfer expert wrote in his CaughtOffside column on Substack: “The Gunners’ recruitment team are delighted with his transfer. He is considered a perfect signing because of how versatile he is”.

Havertz scored the winner in Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Brentford at the Emirates yesterday. It means he has now netted four times in his last four Premier League games.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer claimed last month that the Blues did well to sell the 24-year-old for the amount of money they did. Their London rivals paid £65m to secure his signature (BBC Sport).

Will Chelsea regret selling Kai Havertz?

Right now, perhaps. The German is obviously in great form, while Mauricio Pochettino‘s team are really struggling.

There are also a lack of No.9s in Chelsea’s squad at present following Armando Broja’s loan move to Fulham.

With all of that being said, would Havertz have made that much of a difference for Chelsea if he remained at Stamford Bridge? Probably not.

The Blues finished in 12th place with him last season, while the Germany international is just not a prolific forward. For example, he only scored seven times during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Havertz has already surpassed that tally, so maybe he can develop into that more deadly attacker. However, this transformation that is taking place is happening under Mikel Arteta. There is no guarantee that Pochettino would have got the same out of the former Bayer Leverkusen man.

Ultimately, this still looks like a deal where everyone won, though questions will start to be asked of Chelsea if Havertz gets any better. He is still only 24, so it is still very much a possibility.
