The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has honored its overall best-graduating student, Roland Osaji Takon, with a cash prize of N1 million.

Roland Osaji Takon, who clinched first-class honors in both History and International Studies, was recognized at the 36th Convocation Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Out of a total of 10,117 graduates, Roland Osaji Takon, emerged as the top student, boasting an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.85.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Florence Obi confirmed Roland Osaji Takon’s outstanding academic performance and highlighted his achievement during the convocation.

“Roland Takon of the Department of History and International Studies, matriculation number 18/032144145, has been distinguished as the overall best student and valedictorian of this year’s graduating class.

His exceptional CGPA of 4.85 on a 5-point scale has earned him the prestigious N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) SUG Prize for the Overall Best First Class Graduate,” Prof. Obi said.

Providing further details about the graduating class, Prof. Obi stated;

“We are awarding National Diplomas to 218 individuals and Bachelor degrees to 9,722. Among these, 46 students attained First Class Honours, comprising 34 males and 12 females.

“Additionally, 1,968 students achieved Second Class Upper, 6,439 secured Second Class Lower, 1,117 received Third Class, and 152 were awarded Pass degrees.”

Prof. Obi also pointed out a positive trend in the graduation rates, noting an improvement this year.

In other news, On Thursday the 25th of November, 2021. The University of Benin held its 46th and 47th Convocation which also included the presentation of Prizes among others.

However, during the presentation of prizes at the school auditorium, one of the best graduating students was rewarded with just 3000 Naira, and this did not go down well with the University of Benin Students.
