If you’re an opposition side preparing to face Chelsea, there’s no doubt that one of the burning problems on your mind will be trying to stop Cole Palmer.

The Blues currently sit 10th in the Premier League table during this frustrating season, but where would they be without Cole Palmer in their ranks?

At the age of 21, Palmer’s walked into the Chelsea dressing room and become the talisman in this stunning debut year at Stamford Bridge.

He’s now got 19 goals and 12 assists in only 36 Blues appearances. This comes after his hat-trick in yesterday’s 4-3 league win at home to Manchester United.

Speaking via the Premier League’s official website after Thursday’s performance, Glenn Hoddle waxed lyrical about Palmer’s brilliance on a football pitch.

Cole Palmer not a penalty merchant

It’s important to stress just how good the level is that Palmer is performing at right now. We’re here to rubbish any tags that the Chelsea star is only in the limelight because of his penalties.

First of all, eight out of eight from spot-kicks this season is a superb record. It takes skill and bravery to put away the penalties he has this year.

But if you want to exclude penalty goals, Palmer’s still boasting 11 goals and 12 assists for the Blues.

His display in the win over Man United this week will be remembered because of his hat-trick, but some of his all-round football was outstanding. In particular, his dribbling, close control and technique is flawless.

Mauricio Pochettino talks stopping Cole Palmer

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has the luxury of playing and working every day with a super talent like Palmer.

He’s shared what instructions he would give to an opposition team coming up against the 21-year-old playmaker.

Pochettino said via The Evening Standard: “It surprised me that no one got a yellow card for Manchester United. But it’s not to ask for protection. We need to support the referees and trust them. It’s normal. If I play against Cole, I’m going to tell my defensive line to be tough and not to give him the possibility to get the ball. That is normal.”
