Chelsea are in the market for a new manager following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit on Tuesday.

Despite Chelsea‘s improved form towards the end of the season, Mauricio Pochettino and the club both decided to part ways.

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is now being linked with a return to Stamford Bridge.

It has been claimed that he sees the Blues as a viable option and there have already been some talks.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle has been told that the German returning to west London is “very unlikely”.

Thomas Tuchel’s relationship with Chelsea board

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea back in 2022 and the 50-year-old ended up departing Stamford Bridge on bad terms with one of the club’s owners, according to insider Graeme Bailey.

“I am told that given the way Tuchel previously left the club, it would be a huge shock for them to even consider him coming back,” Bailey told TCC.

“Tuchel and one of the co-owners parted on bad terms, very bad terms and although nothing is insurmountable in football and anything can happen — it is very unlikely from what I am told.

“Tuchel does want to come back to England, but I don’t think it will be Chelsea. Chelsea know what they want and it seems to be a younger, up and coming manager/head coach they want next.”

Should Chelsea consider rehiring Thomas Tuchel following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit?

Things have obviously not worked out for Tuchel at Bayern Munich. His side finished third in the Bundesliga and were knocked out late on in their Champions League semi-final tie against Real Madrid.

However, there is no doubt that Tuchel is a top coach, with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss winning Europe’s elite competition during his time at Chelsea.

Really, then, he is the kind of name that the Blues should be considering. But given his history with the club’s owners, there is just no way that he is going to be at the top of their list to replace Pochettino.

Chelsea fans would probably love it if Tuchel came back to SW6, but it is really hard to imagine that happening.

The reliable Fabrizio Romano has also claimed on Substack that Chelsea want a young manager at the helm following Pochettino’s exit.
