Reports have linked one of last season’s top Chelsea players with a move away from the club.

It has been claimed that Conor Gallagher is of interest to Aston Villa, who are set to play Champions League football next season.

It is still believed that the England international will be sold for the right price this summer, as he approaches the final year of his contract.

While the midfielder still wants to stay at the club, the choice may well be taken out of his hands in the upcoming window.

The report linking Villa to the move states that the Blues are keen for a fee of at least £50m for the player, which would certainly be a large amount considering the length of time left on his deal.

Chelsea fans took to Twitter to give their opinions after the news, and it seems they would be open to the sale based on the amount they could recoup.

One user said: “Yes, he’s not suited to the new system and he only has a year left. Just hope we spend the money wisely (get Olise).”

Another added: “£50m?..I will show him the door.”

A third stated: “It’s sad because he loves the club but the reality is he’d most probably be a £150k a week (if he signed a new deal) squad player under Maresca and when there’s £40/50m pure profit on the table AND you have Enzo, Caicedo, Lavia, Santos etc it’s very hard to say no.”

Another claimed: “The ownership seems to have already made up their minds, so it’s better to cash in rather than free transfer.”

Finally, one said: “You gotta really know ball to know this guy is mid. Not for everyone to find this out.”

Despite the fact that the Blues would be getting decent money for the player, and they may well need it for financial reasons, it should be noted just how important he was to the club last season.

In a campaign where their two nominated captains, Reece James and Ben Chilwell, missed the majority through injury, his availability was something which saw him standout amongst the rest.

It remains to be seen at this stage what new manager Enzo Maresca thinks of the player, and if he can be of use to him next season.
