There’s already plans at Chelsea for their “versatile” player to emerge as a key starter in the team next season.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Enzo Maresca makes his mark at Stamford Bridge.
The new Blues head coach officially starts work on 1 July. He’ll then have just under seven weeks to work out the personnel he wants to start the new Premier League campaign with.

Chelsea player is central to their plans
Journalist Simon Phillips has reported on Thursday via his Substack that Chelsea are planning to make Levi Colwill the first choice centre-back at the club next season.
There’s plenty of speculation in the transfer rumour mill about the 21-year-old’s future this summer, but it sounds like he’s got a big future ahead of him at the Bridge.
The Express reports that Chelsea have no plans to sell Colwill despite interest from German giants Bayern Munich. Admittedly, the report does add that Blues figures could be swayed if a ‘huge offer’ is made.
Levi Colwill deserves key role
The Chelsea Chronicle is delighted to hear suggestions that Colwill is primed for a starting position next year.
He’s not played a game since 2 March against Brentford because of a combination of injury and selection, but the 2023/24 campaign was still a positive one for him during his first year in Chelsea’s first team. He played 32 matches across all competitions.
Colwill’s best position is as a ball-playing centre-back, so it’s no surprise to hear he’s set for a big role under Maresca in the heart of the defence.
However, the English youngster proved his versatility last year by covering at left back on several occasions as well.
Speaking via The Evening Standard last October, Brighton and England defender Lewis Dunk praised Colwill as “very versatile” and a top player.
