Chelsea look determined to strengthen out wide despite having options there.

On the right flank, Chelsea already have Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke who can play there.

They have now agreed a deal with Palmeiras to sign Estevao Willian, who will be another option for them in the near future.

On the left, Mykhailo Mudryk, the fourth-most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history, and Raheem Sterling are the main choices there.

However, it looks like they could be joined by someone else this summer.

Chelsea face transfer battle with Arsenal for winger

Like Chelsea, Arsenal also appear to be in the market for a new wide man as they look to improve their squad after just missing out on the Premier League title last season.

It means the two London clubs could be about to do battle in the transfer market.

According to CaughtOffside, the Gunners are ready to pay Nico Williams’ €58m (£49m) release clause, but Chelsea are expected to hold further talks with his agent about a move to Stamford Bridge.

With Williams at Euro 2024, there may not be a quick resolution.

What could prevent Chelsea signing Nico Williams this summer?

As well as Arsenal’s interest, the 21-year-old’s wages.

It was claimed last month that Chelsea initially cooled their interest in Williams because of his salary.

As per Capology, the Spain international already earns around £170,000 a week at Athletic Bilbao.

It will now be interesting to see if Chelsea are willing to go near that or perhaps even above it.

Chelsea fans will not be feeling too confident. Finances have already seen them pull out of a deal for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

According to The Athletic, the total package to bring Olise to west London became too much for the Blues in the end, hence why they have now turned to Williams. But they could easily run into the same problem with him.
