Chelsea are currently being linked with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Blues, who are in the market for a new centre-forward, are interested in signing Alexander Isak this summer, according to Sky Sports.

Chelsea certainly could do with another No.9 coming in. Nicolas Jackson had little support last season, finishing the campaign on almost 50 appearances as a 22-year-old.

However, if Chelsea are planning a raid on Newcastle during this transfer window, it may be worth them targeting one of Isak’s teammates instead of the 24-year-old.

Alexander Isak a pointless pursuit

There is no doubt that Isak would improve Chelsea.

Isak was excellent for Newcastle last season, scoring 21 goals in 30 Premier League appearances. Right now, he is currently one of the best strikers in the division.

However, his price tag is a huge problem. It has been reported that the Sweden international could cost more than £200m this summer, a fee that would easily make him the most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history.

Another talented Newcastle player, though, could be much more attainable.

Chelsea should add Anthony Gordon to their shortlist

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle were willing to sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool this week in order to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

That stance may change with the deadline, June 30, now here. But the Magpies have, in effect, shown their hand now. Gordon is not untouchable despite only joining the club from Everton last January in a £45m deal.

With that in mind, then, Chelsea should consider making a move for the England international.

At 23, he could be the perfect successor to 29-year-old Raheem Sterling and an upgrade on Mykhailo Mudryk.

Last season, Gordon scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 35 top-flight games. Mudryk, in contrast, only managed five and two in the 31 matches he played.

At Newcastle, Gordon has quickly developed into a productive winger. If he is available this summer, then Chelsea should go for it.
