Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is reportedly so eager to complete the signing of a Chelsea player during this summer transfer window.

Chelsea fans must be enjoying all the new signings arriving into the squad recently. On the flip side, that means players will need to leave to make room.

Ultimately, let’s hope new Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is left next season with a squad he’s happy to work with.

We’ve seen in the recent past too many individuals in the group at one time, so the transfer exits will be just as important as the new arrivals.

Diego Simeone is desperate to sign Conor Gallagher

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via his Substack on Tuesday that Spanish club Atletico Madrid are definitely interested in signing Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher this summer.

He’s explained to that Atletico boss Diego Simeone “really wants” to sign the 24-year-old Blues star. Apparently, he loves the midfielder’s playing style.

Philips adds that Gallagher would be open to making the move to Madrid if Chelsea push his sale, but his preference is still to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Also, there has been some contact between Chelsea and Atletico about a potential transfer, but there’s nothing more advanced than that yet.

Mauricio Pochettino described Gallagher as “priceless” back in February (BBC).

The reality is that Tottenham think they can sign Gallagher for £30m, as per TEAMtalk. The Chelsea Chronicle would hope that the club can drive a higher transfer fee for the England international if he is sold.

Conor Gallagher would thrive at Atletico Madrid

If Gallagher is forced out of Chelsea, he should seriously consider joining Atletico.

On paper, the all-action central midfielder could be a great fit for Simeone’s team, which is why we’re not surprised to hear he likes him as a transfer target.

A lot of Gallagher’s best work comes from what he does off the ball with his physicality, pressing and stamina.

FBREF data recorded Atletico had just 50.8% possession of the football in La Liga last season. That didn’t stop them finishing fourth and qualifying for the Champions League yet again, though.
