Chelsea and Newcastle United could cross paths once again during this transfer window as they reportedly target the same winger.
Earlier this summer, Chelsea signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham on a free transfer. It was a blow for Newcastle, who also wanted the central defender.
However, the Magpies could have a chance to exact their revenge on their Premier League rivals by beating them to one attacker’s signature.
Chelsea have been linked with a few wingers lately, including Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville. Chelsea scouted Williams heavily last season so could make a move for him in this transfer window.

Newcastle United and Chelsea both want to sign Crysencio Summerville
Signing Williams will not be easy for Chelsea. Barcelona want Williams and Lamine Yamal in the same team, so if that comes to fruition, then the Blues could end up recruiting Summerville instead.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, though, the 22-year-old is also on Newcastle’s radar.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “There is interest in him. We know Brighton have taken a look. We know that he could still be on Chelsea’s radar. Newcastle are also interested in the player.
“So it will still be a big surprise if between now and the end of the window, given how many clubs want players in his position, it will be a surprise if somebody doesn’t make a formal offer for Summerville.”
Foot Mercato recently claimed that four Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, are all following Summerville.
Crysencio Summerville an underwhelming alternative to Nico Williams?
Williams is now a European champion and was one of the best players at Euro 2024. It was, of course, the Athletic Bilbao star who opened the scoring in the final.
Missing out on him and turning to a Championship winger like Summerville would definitely disappoint a lot of Chelsea supporters.
On paper, the Dutchman does come across as an underwhelming alternative to Williams. That, however, does not mean he could not make an impact at Stamford Bridge.
Summerville is still a very dangerous attacker. He scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 46 Championship appearances last season.
In an interview with Voetbal International, his compatriot Milan van Ewijk described him as an “exceptionally good” winger. Of course, the Championship is not the same as the Premier League, but Summerville still looks like he could be worth a punt if Chelsea cannot sign Williams this summer.
