Pat Nevin just made a claim about what to expect from Chelsea in the Premier League next season.
As always, the constant chaos around Chelsea makes them one of the most intriguing clubs to look out for going into the next campaign.
There’s been yet another swap in the manager’s dugout at Stamford Bridge. New head coach Enzo Maresca will hope he can get a tune out of this talented but young squad.
The attention has now turned towards Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States, which kicks off on Thursday against Wrexham. London World reports that Chelsea sources are excited by Maresca’s style, which he’s had a couple of weeks to drill into the squad before these friendly matches.
Pat Nevin’s early prediction on Chelsea
BBC pundit Pat Nevin has claimed that predicting how next season will go for Chelsea is a huge ask. He’s actually said that the Blues could finish anywhere between second and 10th in the Premier League.
Nevin wrote in his BBC Football Extra newsletter (22 July): “Chelsea could finish anywhere from second to 10th, with the new manager, more new players and the usual confusion.”
Chelsea ended up finishing sixth in the league last season after a strong finish, which turned out to be enough to qualify for the UEFA Conference League. How long will it be before the club gets back in the top four positions, though?
Where Chelsea have finished in the last five seasons of the Premier League:
- 2023/24 – 6th
- 2022/23 – 12th
- 2021/22 – 3rd
- 2020/21 – 4th
- 2019/20 – 4th
Chelsea must not over-rely on Cole Palmer again
Cole Palmer was truly sensational during his debut season in Chelsea colours last year, but surely his teammates need to raise their levels to ease the burden on him.
The England attacker scored 22 goals and made 11 assists in the league. That means he was directly involved in 33 of Chelsea’s 77 top-flight goals (43%).
While many expect Palmer to carry on shining next season, he may need a bit more help from those around him.
