AFL star Shaun Hampson voted off Australian Survivor: Heroes v Villains in ‘gut-wrenching’ moment

Shaun Hampson is the 16th contestant to be voted off Australian Survivor: Heroes v Villains.

The former Carlton and Richmond player, 34, told The Courier Mail it was a ‘gut-wrenching’ moment as he thought he had a chance at winning the season.

It was his second appearance on the Channel Ten show, with his first stint in 2019 seeing him booted on Day 32.

‘After last time I really wanted to win the thing,’ he said on Tuesday.

‘I wasn’t going on to challenge myself or make my kids proud, I just wanted to go all the way so it was gut-wrenching to be honest.’

He continued: ‘I’m so grateful to get a chance to play a second time but it feels incomplete. I thought after Shonee went I could see a path to victory but it wasn’t to be.’

Host Jonathan LaPaglia revealed earlier this year that filming season 10 proved to be a gruelling experience.

He told The Daily Telegraph the production was impacted by food poisoning and Covid-19.

Shifting the filming location from the Australian Outback to Samoa also brought challenges caused by the elements.

With a new ‘Heroes v Villains’ theme this year, past contestants have collided with new ones as ‘good’ takes on ‘evil’.

LaPaglia believed all of the returning contestants were taking a huge risk given the fast-paced nature of the competition.

Seven contestants remain, four of which are Survivor veterans.
