Real Madrid and Manchester United will both be prioritising signing a new striker this summer.

Football clubs across Europe have realised just how tough that task is, though, but there is one man that could be available – Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Spurs are unwilling to sell the club-record goalscorer, who is going into the final year of his current contract.

Despite the north London outfit’s underwhelming campaign, Kane still managed to bag 26 goals, putting him second in the Golden Boot race behind Erling Haaland with 35.

However talkSPORT brought you the news Real Madrid are keen to test Spurs’ resolve.

The £100million England captain is also on the Red Devils’ radar, with reports in April stating United were already making plans for a bid to sign Kane ahead of next season.

It’s likely Real Madrid will be desperate to secure one best strikers in the market right now following the departure of prolific goalscorer Karim Benzema, whilst Man United still need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

But unfortunately for the Red Devils, recent history shows there are four key reasons why it’s more likely Real Madrid will beat them in the race to sign the Spurs icon.

No Premier League rivals

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it crystal clear he’s reluctant to sell his club’s talisman to a Premier League rival.

After Manchester City’s failed pursuit of the England skipper in 2021, it became apparent Spurs weren’t going to give Kane away to their rivals even with a hefty offer on the table.

Real Madrid have that advantage over Man United, then, even if the Red Devils come to the table with an offer over £100million.

Jude For Thought

Despite visiting Man United’s Carrington training base just a few months before he signed for Dortmund, the Red Devils – and rivals Liverpool – have missed out on being the front runners for sought-after Bellingham.

Last month it was confirmed the ex-Birmingham star had agreed personal terms with Los Blancos. It’s clear to see the Spanish side have more of a pull when it comes to competing with Premier League sides for stars.

Not to mention Kane could be keen on working with a fellow England international with Los Blancos.

Working Relationship

Tottenham’s former business with Real Madrid should send alarm bells ringing at Man United.

Levy and Spurs have built a solid working relationship in recent years.

Former Tottenham stars Luka Modric and Gareth Bale moved from Spurs to Madrid under Levy, with Bale even coming back on loan, showing that there negotiations between the clubs should come with ease.

No Done Deals

Of course, Man United and Spurs have done deals in the past, but not as recently as Real Madrid.

The Red Devils have not signed anyone from Tottenham since Dimitar Berbatov joined for a then-club record of £30million on transfer deadline day in 2008.

This again points towards Real Madrid having the upper hand when it comes to acquiring Kane and leave Man United needing to focus on more realistic options.
