Police find body of missing woman, 29, after her car was left abandoned near Trans Pennine Trail

Police officers searching for a missing woman from Cheshire have found a body.

Thea Newton, 29, was last seen at around 1.30am today at her home address in Warrington. 

Her car was found parked near Sunflower Drive and officers, along with search and rescue teams, started searching for her. They also used a drone to assist them in their hunt.

Cheshire Police has now confirmed they have found a body in their search, which is believed to be Thea. Her next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson from the force said: ‘Search teams looking for missing woman Thea Newton, 29, in Warrington have sadly found a body. It is believed to be Thea and her next of kin have been informed.

‘There are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’

Ms Newton, who is originally from Clitheroe, worked at a local gym and fitness centre.

Police had previously appealed for the help of the public to trace Ms Newton, saying they were ‘increasingly concerned’ for her welfare. 

Inspector Daniel Richardson said before the discovery: ‘We’re increasingly concerned for her welfare and are currently searching for her. If you are out on the Trans Pennine Way and see a woman fitting this description, please contact us. Her family and friends are extremely worried about her and just want her home safely.

‘I’d also appeal directly to Thea, please let us know you are okay, we’re all very worried about you and want to get you back to your family.’
