While speaking to his fans about his weight troubles, Kevin shared his tips in losing weight before. His routine included following a low carbohydrate diet and running every day.

He also revealed that he used to run 5 miles every day at some point in his life. He could lose 50 pounds, but Kevin couldn’t keep the weight off because of his poor eating habits, so he gained all the weight back.

In the movie, Here Comes the Boom, he played the role of a teacher who tries his hand at mixed martial arts (MMA fighting).

While preparing for the role, Kevin James, with the help of MMA mentor, Ryan Parsons, underwent intense training that helped him lose about 80 pounds.

Kevin’s preferred weight loss routine was to stick to a low-carb diet and running every day. It worked for him for as long as he used to, but his routine became more intense for the Here Comes the Boom role. His routine then included boxing and kicking, pushups, sit-ups, and other cardio exercises.

Ryan Parsons, who at that point doubled as a personal trainer, once said that while training for the movie, James had asked to be trained and treated like he was going to a real fight.

“Kevin wanted to be treated like a fighter, so that is what we did. These guys didn’t care he was a movie star. They went at him. He actually knocked a guy out.”

For Parsons for Kevin to perform the role believably, he needed to train some specific areas like stamina, coordination, flexibility, and core strength.

To train these, Kevin had an exercise routine that contained pushups and sit-ups. He also employed the use of a medicine ball with which he incorporated into his exercises.

Kevin followed a strict low carbohydrate diet. He completely cut out processed sugars from his meals and got his sugar needs from fruits.
