Christopher Gilbert (age 26, born in 1997) is a Shreveport native and recent graduate of Louisiana Tech University. He had aspirations of attending medical school to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor.
However, on April 14, his life took a tragic turn during an outing with friends to Rhett’s Tail and Shells, situated in Farmerville, Louisiana, overlooking Lake Darbonne.
The group’s intention for the evening was to enjoy food and drinks at the popular lakeside establishment. Sadly, the evening ended in a harrowing incident when Christopher found himself submerged underwater for nearly twenty minutes, now battling for his life in the intensive care unit (ICU).
What makes it worse is that none of his friends tried to help him after he was pushed into the lake. Instead, two strangers heard the noise and pulled him out.
At first, the police were told Chris had accidentally fallen into the lake. But later, one of his friends, a young woman around the same age, admitted she had pushed him. Even with this confession, nobody was arrested.

Initially, the situation appeared dire as doctors informed his family that Gilbert was essentially brain-dead, with his organs starting to fail. They were given a 72-hour window on life support. However, against the odds, Gilbert later regained consciousness and even regained the ability to eat on his own.
As Gilbert’s recovery progressed, it was not without its challenges. There were moments of setback, such as when he had to be put back on a ventilator after briefly being taken off.
After more than two weeks in the hospital, Christopher Gilbert defied expectations and was officially taken off life support. His survival has been described as nothing short of a miracle by medical professionals.
Now, Gilbert’s family is seeking justice. They want the person responsible for pushing him into the lake to be arrested. Additionally, they are pursuing legal action against the restaurant owner, holding them accountable for failing to ensure Gilbert’s safety as a patron of their establishment.
