Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has falsely claimed that she cut violent crime in the Bronx by preventing cops from getting involved and enlisting ex-gangsters to help instead.

The 33-year-old liberal said that making hospitals the center for responding to crime rather than police precincts had led to a ‘dramatic’ reduction in serious offending.

‘As leaders, we should focus on solutions that are working instead of what helps us look “tough”‘, she crowed in a tweet Tuesday.

But the latest statistics show that while murder and rape are down in the Bronx, felony assaults are up 10 percent and burglary has risen by more than 2 percent, with overall crime increasing in the borough by 4.4 percent compared to 2022.

The picture is starker compared with two years ago. Rape increased by 11 percent, robbery by 40 percent, felony assault by 36 percent and burglary by 47 percent. Overall crime in the Bronx rose by almost 50 percent compared to 2021, according to the NYPD.

AOC proudly stated that there were no police in the hospital taking part in the work. When the interviewer asked: ‘Are there cops at this hospital that are addressing the issue?’ She exclaimed, ‘Hell no’, and threw her head back and laughed hysterically

AOC tweeted out an interview she gave to The Daily Show in which she bragged about how they now treated crime as ‘a public health issue’ and used the tactics of preventative medicine to stop reoffending.

Now in its seventh year, the program known as Stand Up to Violence is the first of its kind in New York, using the Jacobi Medical Center to treat crime like a disease.

AOC proudly stated that there were no police in the hospital taking part in the work.

When the interviewer asked: ‘Are there cops at this hospital that are addressing the issue?’

She exclaimed, ‘Hell no’, threw her head back and laughed hysterically.

The Bronx-native explained how the ‘response center’ has shifted from the jail to the hospital. A team of case workers, including former inmates, then works with the victim of the crime to prevent retaliation.

‘Some of our most effective people in this work are the former gang members, people who formerly spent time at Rikers,’ said the progressive lawmaker.

Adding to her comments, she tweeted: ‘Violence interruption works to keep us safe. Our job is to build awareness and popular support around effective solutions and alternatives to mass incarceration.’

Crime is actually up overall in her borough, with 7,965 in the year to date compared with 7,629 in 2022. Compared to 2010, overall crime has increased by 59 percent.

This reflects a broader crime wave which is sweeping the rest of New York City.

The latest numbers, published on Sunday, reveal that crime is up overall by 0.64 percent. That may not seem a lot, but compared to two years ago, it’s a 46 percent increase.

Compared to 2021, rape is up by 8 percent, robbery rose by 45 percent, felony assault ticked up by 33 percent, burglary jumped by 23 percent, grand larceny climbed by 54 percent and car theft soared by 91 percent.

Murder was the only serious crime which trended down, slumping by 7 percent on two years ago.

‘This is not what New Yorkers expect or deserve, and we will not stand for it,’ NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell said earlier this month when revealing the latest data.

‘It’s clear what we are confronting: A perception among criminals that there are no consequences, even for serious crime. We need tangible changes.’

Without naming names or getting into specifics, Sewell appeared to slam the recent trend toward policies such as bail reform, and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s stance reducing or dropping charges for many crimes.

‘[The justice system] must be fair, but it must first and foremost favor the people it was designed to safeguard and protect. When the focus on those people is lost — New Yorkers, who deserve to be free from fear — the policies fail to deliver on their most basic purpose, which is public safety,’ said Sewell.

‘Everyday New Yorkers need more help. Our police need more help. We need help from every corner of the criminal justice system, and from everyone who lives in, works in, or visits our great city.’

The latest crime surge comes after Mayor Eric Adams last month promised a designated subway police task force to tackle crime and homelessness in stations and on trains.

Adams, a Democrat and former NYPD captain, was elected on a vow to crack down on crime and clean up the city.
